Almaden Valley is tucked between the Sierra Azul Mountain Range and Santa Teresa Hills in southwestern San Jose. Formerly known as New Almaden, Almaden Valley has a storied history as the area served as a quicksilver mining region in the 1800s. Since former chef-owner John Davoudi passed the baton to Giuseppe and Maurice Carrubba, the restaurant has maintained its elegant and decadent aesthetic. Locals can enjoy five, six, and seven-course chef tasting menus, coupled with perfect wine pairings. There is also the option to choose an entree such as roasted New Zealand elk loin with a portabella, cognac demi-glaze reduction.
In Old Almaden Plaza, residents enjoy a casual dining experience at Legends Pizza. Legends is the perfect joint for a slice after a little league game or a casual spot to enjoy the game and beer with friends. Almaden Golf and Country Club is a distinguished private association whose golf course is immaculately maintained with perfect amenities. Over the 18-hole course, the par 72 excursion showcases beautiful tree-edged fairways and challenges with numerous sand bunkers and water hazards. The country club also features bocce, pickleball, and tennis courts as well as a swimming pool and fitness center.
Boulder Ridge Golf Club is another excellent golf course, its high elevation allows for stunning panoramic views showcasing the beauty of the South Bay. Cinnabar Hills Golf Club is considered one of the finest golfing institutions in Northern California. Its 27-hole setup allows for unique 18-hole configurations and subsequent challenges. The accompanying restaurant, which offers a weekend breakfast menu, is a great place to cap off a round or host a business meeting.
Nature is abundant in Almaden Valley. Occupying more than 4,000 acres, Almaden Quicksilver County Park is a nature lover's sanctuary with a rich mining history and still exhibits remnants from that time. The park features more than 37 miles of trails that can be hiked or biked. It’s also the perfect place for animal lovers with dog walking areas and 30 miles of equestrian trails on-site. Almost 63 acres in size, Guadalupe Oak Grove Park maintains its inherent oak grove atmosphere and features an assortment of brisk relaxing trails that are ideal for breathing in nature with one’s dog or catching up with a friend.
History buffs can learn more about the neighborhood by visiting the New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum which still carries artifacts from the mid-1800s.
